Both SIMnet and Connect are REQUIRED for this course and must be purchased through Day One Access. You cannot purchase the textbook on your own.

    • After the Add/Drop date, your student account will be charged for the access. You will receive an email from the CSU bookstore detailing the billing amount for the McGraw-Hill package.

Microsoft Office 365 Suite

You will also need to download the desktop version or use the web version of the Microsoft Office 365 suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for this course. CSU has a webpage for accessing the M365 Office Suite. You get a free account with your school email, so you should not have to pay for anything.

Please note that you cannot use the web version of Microsoft Office for this class, nor can you use an iPad for this class. You will not be able to access all the features necessary to complete the projects in this class without the desktop version. If you have a Mac, do not use any Mac apps like Pages or Numbers – these will not be graded.

If you are unable to download Microsoft Office or have a device that is not compatible with the requirements of this class (such as an iPad or Chromebook), come speak to one of the TAs. You can always complete the projects and assignments on the lab computers in CSB 110. CSB 110 is open 24/7 with your student ID.

Late Policy

Most assignments will be allows to be submitted late within 7 days of the original due date. There is a 5% penalty per day late to a maximum late penalty of 35%. The assignments that may be submitted late are readings, homeworks and labs. Exams cannot be taken late without agreement from the instructor.

Accidental Submissions

The SIMnet software used for labs and homework automatically submits assignments when the page is closed or refreshed, this may sometimes cause you to accidentally submit an assignment early and receive a low grade. We allow a single resubmission of the exercises per semester so make sure to be careful with the software, if you would like to resubmit please reach out to a Teaching Assistant during their helpdesk or lab hours.

Attendance

Lab Attendance is required for all section 401 local students in the CSB 110 lab. For all non-exam weeks aside from the first week attendance is only required for either the Monday or the Wednesday lab period. On Exam weeks, you will need to come in on Monday to receive attendance and on Wednesday for the exam. Online section 801 students are not required to attend in person lab periods. We drop your lowest 4 attendance grades. Excused absences will have their corresponding attendance dropped.

Academic Integrity

All students are expected to conduct themselves professionally. Students are assumed to be familiar with the policies in the student information sheet for the department.

This course will adhere to CSU Academic Integrity Policy as found in the the General Catalog and the Student Conduct Code. At a minimum, violations will result in a grading penalty in this course and a report to the Office of Conflict Resolution and Student Conduct Services.

Academic integrity lies at the core of our common goal: to create an intellectually honest and rigorous community. Because academic integrity, and the personal and social integrity of which academic integrity is an integral part, is so central to our mission as students, teachers, scholars, and citizens, I will ask that you affirm the CSU Honor Pledge as part of completing your work in this course.

Further information about Academic Integrity is available at CSU’s Academic Integrity – Student Resources.

Discuss the situation with the instructor if in doubt. Don’t assume.

As a student enrolled in this course, one of your responsibilities is to submit course work by the due dates listed in Canvas.
With that said, I take my role as your instructor seriously, and I care about how well you do in the course and that you have a satisfying, rewarding experience. To that end, it is my commitment to you to respond individually to the work you submit in this class and to return your work in a timely manner, typically within a few days. If, however, due to unforeseeable circumstances, the grading of your work takes longer than the times I have listed here, I will keep you informed of my progress and make every effort to return your work as soon as I can.

The course grading requires you to demonstrate a grasp of the course concepts through a variety of activities as teams of students develop a mobile application and server iteratively during the semester.
