This course provides a structured network of support and key pedagogical resources to ensure your success.
People and Mentorship
- Three-Tiered Mentorship: Our course uses a multi-layered support system. New (Level 1) UTAs are mentored by experienced (Level 2) UTAs, who are in turn guided by Lead UTAs.
- Mentor Check-ins: Level 1 and Level 2 UTAs will have regular, documented check-ins to discuss progress, set goals, and address challenges.
- Instructor and Lead UTAs: The instructor and Lead UTAs serve as the primary points of contact for course continuity and troubleshooting.
Frameworks and Tools
Throughout the course, we will engage with and apply several evidence-based pedagogical frameworks, including:
- Kolb’s Experiential Learning Cycle and Backward Design.
- Active and inquiry-based learning strategies.
- Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to promote inclusive teaching.
- The SBI (Situation-Behavior-Impact) model for providing constructive feedback.
- The “Crucial Conversations” framework for navigating difficult interactions.
